“Newly crowned Can Am Cup winning team head to only visit to Shannonville on the 2011 Ontario Formula Ford Championship schedule”
Brantford, Ontario - July 13, 2011 - Britain West Motorsport, Canada’s leading Formula Ford competition group, will take three cars to the tight confines of Shannonville Race Park for rounds five and six of the Ontario Formula Ford Championship. Leading the way for the Brantford, Ontario-based team is veteran campaigner Gord Ross of Woodstock, Ontario running in a B Class car. After a two-month hiatus, Steve Tzountzouris of Uxbridge, Ontario returns to OFFC action in his A Class car. Ross, sporting a bright orange livery on his Van Diemen car, heads into his third year of competition and is supported by Harvan Engineering. Tzountzouris will bring his six seasons of competition to the track and will carry the colours of Haugen’s BBQ and greatsmiles.ca on his jet-black car. The third car will be piloted by Formula Ford rookie Garett Grist of Grimsby, Ontario, a member of the Sofina Foods Driver Development Program and supported by Sofina Foods of Toronto, Ontario. Grist, running the Britain West yellow and blue #65 Van Dieman in the A Class, has had excellent speed in his first OFFC outings and looks to keep his pole streak alive at Shannonville.
“Gord is having a great a year so far and it’s nice to have Steve back in the car this weekend. We really enjoy having both those guys on a race weekend,” comments David Clubine, owner of Britain West Motorsport. “Garett had a tough break at Mosport in the Sunday race and we are really focused on getting him to front this weekend. He is super fast and this weekend will be great for him.”
Making a special appearance for Friday testing will be Britain West driver Nathan Blok of Pembrook, Ontario. A regular in the Quebec-based Formula Tour 1600 Series, Blok is coming off a sensational weekend at the Montreal Grand Prix that saw him make two trips to the podium. A long gap in the Formula Tour schedule will see Blok take in the pre-race practice sessions to gain some valuable seat time ahead of the upcoming Formula Tour 1600 date at Mont Tremblant.
“It’s going to be great to have Nathan in the car on Friday. He has been chomping at the bit to get back on track,” laughs Clubine. “We will be able to use him for some data and set-up support. It should be a great weekend for the team.”
