Brantford, Ontario – May 5, 2011 – Britain West Motorsports, Canada’s leading Formula Ford competition group, hits the track this weekend with four drivers under the tent each ready to take on the top-flight regional field open wheel racers. Running an extensive program across two provinces will see the Britain West organization, led by industry veteran David Clubine, take on both the Ontario Formula Ford Championship and the Quebec Formula Tour series. With seven drivers running under the Britain West banner, the team has been working around the clock to prepare and test their fleet of customer-owned and team-owned Van Diemen chassis all powered by Britain West prepared engines. For 2011 the team is a mix of seasoned veterans, returning hot shoes, young guns and even a Late Model stock car driver. Criss-crossing Canada’s two most populous provinces will see the single seater specialists log loads of miles and secure plenty of hardware.

Leading the charge this weekend on the always-challenging Mosport International Raceway are veterans Gord Ross (36) of Woodstock, ON along with Steve Tzountzouris (39) of Uxbridge, ON. Ross, sporting a bright orange livery on his Van Diemen FFB car, heads into his third year of competition and is supported by Harvan Engineering. Tzountzouris will bring his six seasons of competition to the track and will carry the colours of Haugen’s BBQ and greatsmiles.ca on his jet-black FFA car.

“I have worked with both Gord and Steve for a number of years,” comments Clubine from his facility just outside Brantford, ON. “Both run really well each year and this season might be just the year that both break through to take the championship.”

Adding some excitement to the program is the signing of two rookie drivers to Ontario Formula Ford action. Mackenzie Clare (16) of Barrie, ON and Garett Grist (16) of Grimsby, ON will each campaign the familiar yellow and blue Britain West livery used on all team cars. Both Clare and Grist bring extensive karting experience to their respective racing programs, as they look to make the transition to open wheel racing. This will be Grist’s first start in a formula car while Clare was able to complete one weekend last season before the year ended. The pair is looking forward to working together as they take on the field at Mosport.

“It’s going to be exciting having Mackenzie and Garett under the tent this season. Both are really focused on learning how to drive and ask a lot of questions,” laughs Clubine. “I really think both will run well and should be in a position to fight for top fives before the season is over.”
