Zachary Vanier, Bertrand Godin and JC Trahan Deliver Strong Results
Mt. Tremblant, QC (May 26, 2019) – Circuit Mt. Tremblant was the stage for rounds 1-3 of the Quebec based F1600 Canada Championship this past weekend.
Britain West brought 3 cars to the event driven by returning star Zachary Vanier, who claimed his first F1600 victory at this track last season, Quebec racing legend Bertrand Godin making his return to full time competition and rookie JC Trahan who makes his car racing debut after an impressive test with the team in the fall.
A day of testing on the Thursday set the stage for a full weekend of competition under mixed and cool spring conditions. All 3 drivers were quick and feeling confident for Friday’s practice and Saturday’s qualifying sessions.
The weekend started off with a bang. In race 1 qualifying Zachary Vanier was 2nd to veteran F1600 driver Olivier Bedard, just a tenth off pole position. Bertrand Godin posted a lap good enough for 5th on the grid and JC Trahan impressed in his first ever qualification session and nailed a lap good enough for 9th.
Race 1 started with some wet conditions. Vanier ran strong all race long and brought his car home in a solid 2nd place position. Godin raced his way up to a podium position, finishing 3rd and young Trahan would have his impressive run end with a small mistake and a trip though the gravel trap. No damage was done but his day would be over.
The team picked up where they left off in race 2 with Vanier challenging race winner Bedard again, finishing 2nd, with Godin racing his way to 4th and JC Trahan impressing many with a drive from 10th to 5th.
The final race of the weekend was a repeat performance of race 2 with Vanier finishing 2nd for the 3rd time and Godin 4th, challenged by young Trahan in 5th position.
Confidence is high heading into the next weekend on the schedule. Vanier will be competing with Ontario teammate Matt Gidman at Calabogie Motorsport Park, looking to take the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series from his new arch rival – Olivier Bedard.
