Britain West on the Podium at Montreal GP

Montreal, QC (June 10, 2019) – Britain West took up a lot of room on the podium this past weekend in the F1600 Canada races as part of the Montreal Grand Prix.

The F1600 event at the F1 Montreal event never disappoints. Race 1 was action packed from the drop of the green flag when a competitor struck the wall on the front straight and had his wheel assembly careen right across the track in front of the entire field, including our very own Matt Gidman.

Luckily no one was struck and the race managed to stay green.

Vanier battled pole sitter Olivier Bedard hard into the first corner but had to settle for second place as they headed into corner 2 with Bertrand Godin and Tyler O’Connor right behind.

Godin would get around O’Connor and catch back up to Vanier as he tried to close the gap to the leader. The teammates worked closely to draft each other up to Bedard but ran out of time as a nasty crash involving JC Trahan and two other competitors brought out the race ending red flag.

Trahan was having an incredible race. The young rookie had surprised everyone in qualifying with a fifth place starting spot and was looking for a very good finish.

Matt Gidman had a great race, starting in 19th place and avoiding the mayhem at the start but working himself into 12th place when the red came out.

Guy Gilain had a rough start to race 1. His car would not start on the grid and he was forced to take the green flag in pit lane, putting him at a significant disadvantage. He would eventually finish in 27th.

Tony Martella had another improvement in performance as he becomes more familiar with formula car racing and brought his car home in 28th.

Race 2 was yet another incredible performance by Britain West as they grabbed the 2nd and 3rd steps of the podium.

Bertrand Godin and Zachary Vanier drove superbly to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Matt Gidman grabbed the 10th spot with an impressive drive while Guy Gilain and Tony Martella also had great drives to finish P13 and P23.

On to the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix this upcoming weekend.
