Britain West Motorsport travelled to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races on the September 19/20th weekend of 2020. Wrapping up a very cold testing day, and Saturday morning practice, the cars got ready for qualifying later in the morning.
In Saturday’s qualifying – driver Mac Clark set a new qualifying lap record. 1:27.955 bests the record last set by Steve Bamford landing him in pole position for Race 1. Jim Hallman would roll off 12th in A Class with Connor Clubine setting a lap good enough for 4th in B Class and teammate Sean Johnston setting his fastest laps of the weekend to set the 6th fastest B Class time.
Race 1 results provided a phenomenal Saturday for Britain West… Mac Clark nabbed another series win leading flag to flag and added another track record for the day posting a fastest lap of 1:28.417. Connor Clubine raced his way up into a 3rd place in B Class battling hard with Andrew Mason all race long and trying an aggressive move to take 2nd in the last corner of the last lap but came up just short. Jim Hallman was in the thick of a mid pack battle and raced into 11th followed home by his teammate Sean Johnston with a 14th place finish, running his fastest laps of the weekend.
Special mention to James Lindsay who used his Britain West powerplant to battle hard for 2nd overall all race long, winning the B Class race (and the Oliver Clubine Trophy) in commanding fashion and setting a new track record along the way…great run James!
Race 2 was the 10th win this year Mac Clark. Mac got a great start and never looked back, posting qualifying times all race long. Jim Hallman had a good consistent run and brought his car home to a 10th place finish in A class. Connor Clubine had a solid run to 4th place in B class with teammate Sean Johnston finishing 5th.
Mac Clark closed out race three with another impressive flag to flag victory with A Class teammate Jim Hallman posting personal best laps to bring his car home in a solid 10th. In B Class series rookie Connor Clubine waged a race long battle and gained 2 spots to stand on the second step of the podium while teammate Sean Johnston, also recording several personal best laps came home fifth.
What an amazing weekend for Mac Clark. He clinched the Toyo Tires F1600 Series championship title with his 3rd win of the weekend, 2nd race lap record of the weekend and 11th victory on the season. To cap things off he is also the youngest Canadian Formula 1600 championship winner since Canadian racing icon Paul Tracy. Congratulations champ!!!
Next up is the Fall Classic at Mt Tremblant next weekend for Mac Clark while the rest of the team awaits the final race of the Ontario season, the CASC Celebration of Motorsport in 2 weeks.
