DOUBLE PODIUMS FOR BRITAIN WEST AT GP3R

“Britain West takes the Pro and Masters class wins in race two action on the twisty streets of Trois Rivieres”

2011-08-16

Brantford, Ontario – August 16, 2011 – Britain West Motorsport, Canada’s leading Formula Ford competition group, left the province of Quebec with some hard earned hardware as two drivers managed to hit the podium during the exciting and action packed Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres. An up and down weekend for the four-car effort all came together in the second Saturday race as Britain West swept the top spots in both classes. Running two cars in the Pro Class and two cars in the Masters class, Britain West Motorsport was looking to get back some ground it lost from the last Formula Tour race held at Circuit Mont Tremblant. With big crowds on hand and the possibility of rain in the area, teams and drivers were on edge as the full field of Formula Fords streamed down the front straight to take the green flag.

In Saturday race one of the double header weekend, second year racer Nathan Blok of Pembrook, Ontario, led the way in his blue and yellow Britain West prepared Van Diemen taking sixth in the Pro Division after a solid qualifying had him on the front row for the start. Sergio Pasian of St-Jeanne d’arc, Quebec was up next for BWM as he took 12th in the 29-car field. Guy Gilian of St. Eustache, Quebec and Isabelle Tremblay of Longueuil, Quebec, both running in the Masters Division, were victims of contact and had their respective races shorten.

“Nathan ran a great race one, leading for a while and keeping it in the top ten. Sergio had one of his best runs this season as well coming home in 12th in his first trip to GP3R,” comments David Clubine, owner of Britain West Motorsport. “It was a different story for Guy and Isabelle who both got caught up in stuff happening on the track.”

Just a few hours later the field again hit the concrete confines of the GP3R track for race two. This time the results showcased the excellent speed of the drivers as Blok took the win in a strong fashion. Needing to make passes during critical points in the race, Blok was able to make the moves, giving him his first win of the 2011 season. Also making up for lost ground in race one, veteran campaigner Gilian took the Masters Division top finishing spot as he crossed the line in 12th place. Another good bounce back in race two was Tremblay as she just missed the podium taking fourth in Masters, all while doing double duty on the weekend running the NASCAR Canada race. Not able to repeat his solid run in race two, Pasian had his race cut short as he made contact with the wall while exiting corner five.

“Overall we ended the weekend right where we wanted to be, on top of the podium with two drivers,” continues Clubine from his race shop in Brantford, Ontario. “This will be good experience for all of our guys as we head to ICAR next.”
